personally its beta if u own ur own, coz then u can cherish it. how bad would it be if u spent an hour cleaning ur violin, then to realise it wasn't yours :x

True, i think that it would be awful to practice with an instrument that is not yours, i would have fear that something bad could happen to it. :roll:

Well I got my own because my rental sucked! Mine is just a student model, but I am saving up for a nicer one.

I just got a new violin and I'm really quite proud of it. :) I've never rented an instrument before. There's no bond between the instrument and the musician that way 'cause no matter how you look at it, it still isn't yours. I'd imagine that less care would be put into taking care of it as well.
The good thing with renting is that there's no promise of commitment. If you don't like it, then you can change it without harm. (Good for new students who aren't sure what they like yet) And you don't have to worry if it gets a little scratch. I'd be mortified if my violin was damaged in any way, no matter how small, but I'd brush it off if it wasn't mine and just remember to be more careful.
