I have found that the dark rosin sticks better. At least for me...

. I use well a sorta brownish rosin. it's PIRASTRO EUDOXA ROSIN im serious its the best rosin ever. i swear it wont let you down! when i first bought it, i wiped it like over and over coz i thought it would be bad like my old rosin, but once i played my violin, whooh...all that Rosin! Anyways, use black/dark green rosin if you intend to play HEAPS of fast, rhythmic music. i've never used it myself though..

I use oragne rosin, it is lighter.... Dark rosin sticks more to your strings, but leaves a lot of dust which is bad for the strings and varnish, with my experance, I like the brand called Jade I believe the most!

I'm not entirely what my rosin falls under. I use a brand called Jade rosin. It's made from France and I highly recommend it to all string players. It's based from cellophane I believe, which is the secret behind its smoothness and it doesn't produce dust either. It's a hard rosin and that usually means it's a light (orange) rosin. Dark rosins are usually softer and stickier.

Whoa! What kind of rosin is it? Rosin isn't supposed to smell bad, lol. It shouldn't even have a scent.
