What type of ensemble would you play in?
What type of ensemble would you play in?

Chamber. But I love the orchestra! I would have to do both. Duos are okay.

i've added in a solo for those independent ppls out dere lol personally, i like duos and trios, because they're easier to manage than quartets and quintets. The music is more personal, and passionate. Orchestras are good in that if u stuff up, u wont get heard, but oh well. In duos and trios, you're more heard, but your not overheard (say, when your doing solo :) )

That is a very good point! I like the full sound of an orchestra and the friendships that grow within a chamber group!

i woudent mind playing in orchestra(makin mistakes isnt really a problem since you have like 5+ other instruments next to u) but i would like to stand out, duo trio for me :P

LoL. i also like to play in quartets as well. they're so well equipped .. 2 babys (violins), a teenager (viola) and an adult (cello) LoL

What about the senior!! that is what I don't like about quartets, no bass. oh well.

oh well. double basses are more suited to large ensembles or orchestras. and ocassionally a string quintet.

jsut wondering, are the soudns of a double bass nice with the bow..?

theyre nice with both bow and pizz. but pizz is better, coz the low sound vibrates a lot.

Of course it sounds nice with a bow! I love the deep, rumbling sound. But basses can also play very high pitches, not nearly as high as the violin of course. The only bas solo I saw live was very hig pitched and my mother was convinced that it wasn't a bass. But I do believe that basses have the best pizz quality of the string instruments. maybe excluding guitar.

LoL Sonja. I once played a bass in a shop before. it was so cool! and humungous compared to the violin.

I love chamber groups in general and I'd really enjoy playing in a small group of some sort. I think it gives a greater chance for you to distinguish yourself from the others and it allows for a better connection to your peers who are also playing in the ensemble.
