Playing 8va Alright guys, I want your views here. When you guys get "8va" (octave higher) on your scores, and it is really high, how do you guys approach it? Do you -
- Play the lower octave first, and then play it in a higher octave, thus play by ear?
- Or, do you actually attempt to play the actual 8va notes?
Its just that I really dont like seeing "8va" on my scores, so I just want to know wat's the best way to approach them. I know that there are several methods of approaching them.

wats soo bad about octaves, if its around E, i use harmonic then find the note around, or yeah, usually i play a note in the first position then find the note by ear, but i dun mind it, wat i mind or like notes with 5 ledger lines and asks u to play it an octave higher, its like, arr. not easy lolz

It is incredibly rare that I ever see this. When I work with my bass teacher we just practice it where it should be played; up an octave. But it is probably a pretty good idea to play it an octave lower first to get a feel for the notes and intervals before switching.
