i thought they were called silent cos u could plug them in to headphones so only you could hear it?

Orchdork1234- 03-23-2005

sure they are somewhat silent. But you can still hear vibrations.. thats like saying you have an electric drum set, and you hit the drum and you hear a sound in the headphones, but your also going to hear a sound if you dont have headphones on. Because they cant make it totally silent.

redhead_violinist- 03-24-2005

that would have to be true

biovio- 03-24-2005

can someone discribe how low(soft) the sound is when its unplugged (electric instrument)

Orchdork1234- 03-29-2005

Its really undescribable, just get one, they have electric instruments on ebay for cheap, like $60

i heard a man from yamaha demo the yamaha silent electric, i would say its silent enough that noone can hear u frmo outside the rooom. edit: this is the link for the guy who demos the yamaha sv-200 and ev-204, scroll down the page and find violine/stefan pintev. http://www.yamaha-europe.com/yamaha_europe/uk/service/040_downloads/20_downloads_multimedia/70_download_movies/index.php

.
biovio, that movie was AMAZING!! i am shocked ... i never knew how capable an electric violin was. but still...whats the difference between an electric and silent violin? can some1 plz tell? according to the video, the only difference is the design? im sure theres more...

Orchdork1234- 04-09-2005

the diffrence is basically nothing. With the electric, its more powerfull, and has a better more modern design.other than that, theres really not much diffrence at all. Im getting an electric violin! Omg im getting it tomorrow. I will shwo it to you alll when i get it!

i have a sv 120.. its not silent for the fact that you can hear it when it is unplugged but the concept that yamaha is bringing about is it produces little sound unlike an acoustic one. it is true that you can practice at night without disturbing poeple because it isnt that loud, but the sound sound is enough to disturb... lets say someone sleeping behind you while you are playing. the sound is so metallic when unplugged, no depth or anyting. for those who are planning to buy the sv 200. if you are on a budget, id prefer you buy the 120 instead. people had been saying that the 200 sounds a lot better but ideally, just configure you 120 correctly (with the right reverb , stuff on the desk) it will sound as good as the 200. comparing them,, 200 sounds a lot nicer than 120 in the case of plug and play (where you just plug them in an amp and play),, but with the right electrical configuration, may it be by a stomp or the synthesizer, you can virtually make them sound the same. get what i mean? but im not stopping you from buying one. 200 is amazing and 120 will sound as amazing if you know a bit on sound engineering.
