electric strings
is anyone using a electric string instrument (excluding the electric guitar cause its very common) i wanna use one, there silent rite...? no sound comeout if there not plugged..? that sucks...

I don't own one but their not silent, they just don't have any amplification. An acusic insterment uses the wooden body to amplify the sound. It would make sound but it wouldn't be that loud. In the "Making of Victory" bond video you can see them playing their electrics for the locals without amps.

Im fixing to buy a new electric violin, since i play viola, and i can play violin too.

Right, they aren't slent but all you can hear is the string vibrating, it has a tin-ny sound. I was saving up for an electric instrument but decided to put it towards a better acoustic instrument. I warn you though, try the instrument before you by it. Electric instruments feel very different from acoustic.

there not silent...., what if you used a electric bow(cotton fibre of sumthin), would it sill preduce sound...? horse hair have little little hooks (like insect legs, to climb walls) and when you strike you bow on the strings, the hooks will hook on the string then flick off the string causin it to vibrate the string so a sound comes out (just a little background info for visitors or ppls who neva knew why they used horse tail hair instead of....humanhair (bwahaha, jokes)) then how come on the yamahasite, when you search the violins that bond use to use, there called, silent violin...?

they are called silent because they are like silent. You can still hear it. But it is not nearly as loud as the amplified version. Haven't you ever played around on an electric guitar? I guess you have to try it to understand...

Oh yeah you can here the instrumen when it is not plugged it, it just like when they call guns silent you still hear a sound, just now a loud BANG! you know? It's bascally like you have a mute on you acustic violin! ^_^ Jordan violins have the best sound! o0O They are truely the most amazing eletric violins out there! But they are ugly so I bought a white fender! ^_^

i mtie be gettin a yamaha sv-200!!! woohooo ok, there called the silent series, iv played around with the yamaha silent piano and when u press the silent pedal, YOU CANT HEAR ANYTHING!! but if u plug headphones into your yamaha silent violin, would it poroduse sound..?? would all the sound go through the headphones or is it still hearable...??

YOu are so funny! YOu can hear tiny noises if the instrument is not amplified, but it is nothing special. When you "plug it in" it is amplified and sounds much like the sound you would recognize for a violin (but it sounds more "electric" for lack of a better word)

Orchdork1234- 03-10-2005

the only diffrence between a normal violin and electric violin is, electric silents, arent box like, like ours are, with electric violins, it makes a noise, but not very loud, when you pluig it in, its just like a violin, except amplified. and it has NOTHING to dow ith a bow, because i noticed you said somthing about an electric bow... no such thing =) Jake

as in, bow used for electric instruments....well i hope i read the info on the bow rite....

redhead_violinist- 03-17-2005

i thought they were called silent cos u could plug them in to headphones so only you could hear it?

Orchdork1234- 03-23-2005

sure they are somewhat silent. But you can still hear vibrations.. thats like saying you have an electric drum set, and you hit the drum and you hear a sound in the headphones, but your also going to hear a sound if you dont have headphones on. Because they cant make it totally silent.

redhead_violinist- 03-24-2005

that would have to be true

biovio- 03-24-2005

can someone discribe how low(soft) the sound is when its unplugged (electric instrument)
