Chin Cellos
The new craze - well, they're old actually. First 5 string violins, then 6 strings, then 7 strings and now CHIN CELLOS! ha, wats next? Chin cellos are violin sized cellos that are played like violins but are tuned to the pitch of a cello. They are being sold in most online violin shops and professional string shops. Totally disorientates the direction and heritage of music. what do you guys fink?

Yeah, I wouldn't want to play a chin cello. I think the traditional cello is really cool and beautiful. the chin cello is probably for cellests that feel the need to walk around while they play...

Hahah that sounds funny, soon there might be CHIN Double Bass as well :G But imagine the full orchestras, or simply string groups, all the cello players choose to use their CHIN Cello, somehow the image in my mind appears and i think that the orchestra on stage seems to be abnormal and a little bit unbalanced. :S Coz when we think of Orchestra performance on stage we always assume that there should be something HUGE at the right hand side... :P

ha, chin double basses? lol that'd be very funny. it'd be more convenient but i dont fink such a low sound would fit into such small frame. i mean, i bet the chin cello BARELY made its low tone through a violins frame ;)

Probably. You really wouldn't be able to put very big strings on it... ;)

iv heard of a few electric shin cellos (which is pretty much violin(maybe with the cello tuning(C G D A)) but with an lower octave effect on it. im not sure never seen an acoustic chin cello

I was talking about electric chin cellos besides it's not possible to have an acoustic chin cello. I don't know if I'm right but I'm guessing the the chin cello is just like an electric viola with an effect to make it sound an octave lower...I know there's an effect pedal for the electric violin that adds one or two octaves to whatever you're playing... So is there a website in which the electric chin cellos are on sale???

no its possible for the violin to have celo strings, i think the 7 string violin can reach lower notes then cello, so yeah, they jsut put deep strings on the violin, theres ur chin cello
